Faroe Origin was founded in February 2011 following the closure of Faroe Seafood. In its early years, the company operated both fishing vessels and processing plants located in Runavík and Toftir.

In 2025, the company underwent restructuring, separating vessel operations from processing activities.

Today, Faroe Origin focuses exclusively on processing at its facilities in Runavík and Toftir and employs approximately 125 people.

Operations in Runavík include a landing station and a production plant for various saithe products, while the facility in Toftir produces salted fish products.

The company is jointly owned by Varðin and Framherji, each holding a 50% share.
